Baviaanskloof Tours and Adventure

The sheer expanse of the area could see yourself spending weeks exploring the never-ending kloofs and valleys. However, if time is not on your side its still possible to enjoy a day trip to the area and experience this remote wilderness. Your guide has a deep rooted passion for the area that began 12 years ago after being introduced to this 'sanctuary'. The drive through the Gamtoos Valley on route to the Baviaanskloof holds many scenic and interesting places not to be overlooked such as The African Dawn Bird Sanctuary ( on request ), the historic grave of Sarah Baartman overlooking the valley, the eon-conglomerate rock formation known as The Queen Victoria Profile, and the first double-arched dam wall to be built in South Africa.

Day Tours

dwa 1 • A perfect option for a comfortable day trip that will take you 40km into the Wilderness Area. Stopping along the way to admire the fantastic scenery and kaleidoscope of fauna and flora. A short hike lasting about 2 hours is recommended but purely at the discretion of the group. We'll enjoy a tasty lunch in the shade of riverine forest before departing for the remainder of our journey. Cost is R385 pp, min of 2.

dwa 2 • A custom day trip where you can choose 1 - 2 adventure activities, such as hiking, birding, kayaking, mountain biking, kloofing and fishing. Unfortunately due to the logistics involved, the option of kayaking and mountain biking is restricted to a maximum of 4 persons. Lunch will be served alongside endangered red finned minnows eyeing us out from their pristine stream. Cost is R385 pp, min of 2.

2 - 3 day Adventure Tours

dwa 3 • All inclusive packages are customized according to your enquiry. Perfect for anyone wishing to spend some more time exploring, or for company's that would like to structure small conference and teambuilding weekends.   Please specify your choice of accommodation ranging from spacious camping ( all equipment provided ), restored farm homestead ( basic with bunk beds ), fully serviced farm lodges and more luxurious B&B's. Please specify your choice of activities from hiking, birding, kayaking, mountain biking, kloofing and fly/bass fishing. An example of the cost of a 3 day adventure tour for 6 people camping would be R625 pp.

Baviaanskloof Kayak Adventures

dwa 4 • Full day - The most spectacular paddle you could possibly experience on freshwater in the Eastern Cape. This exclusive experience will take you deep into this remote wilderness and keep you wondering how come the breathtaking scenery never seems to end. Snaking through sheer cliffs we'll surprise even the most elusive animals as we slip by in silence. We'll spend the morning paddling, break for lunch in a shady kloof in the middle of nowhere and then continue on our journey of exploration. Cost is R385 pp, min of 2.

dwa 5 • Baviaanskloof Over-nite Kayak Adventure, an all inclusive adventure that gives you more time to explore this wilderness wonderland, although there will be plenty left over for your return some day. Besides the amazing kayaking experience, you'll enjoy African cuisine under a star scape that will have you contemplating our existence in this galactic infinity. All camping equipment is supplied (except sleeping bags), please enquire should you prefer other forms of accommodation. Cost is R585 pp, min of 2.

Baviaanskloof Guided Fly Fishing

d-fly 5 • One day breakaway to Baviaanskloof to fish for Smallmouth/largemouth Bass, Carp, Barbel and others in truly magnificent scenery. Stealth fishing at its best, and a personal favorite. Fly fishing tackle available for hire, conventional tackle and lures available on request. Suggested departure and return is sunrise and sunset respectively. Full day - R750 for 1 angler, R300 per additional angler/companion.

All tours include transport ( a/c, 4x4 ), lunch, meals on multi-day trips, limited refreshments, permits and any additional fees, registered field guide and an amazing wilderness experience.
